Brittle Dry – God Says, Harvest Will Come

Brittle Dry – God Says, Harvest Will Come

It is amazing how often driving to church brings unwanted and poorly timed emotions. My heart churned as frustrated prayers begged God to bring me close to His Holiness. I arrived late for worship team warm up. When I entered the sanctuary, It is well With My Soul filled my ears and made an escape down my cheeks. You see, it is not well with my soul. Things are amiss and the Holy Spirit says we are going to deal with it. I came home from church with a pull the covers over my head kind of feeling. I was exhausted, but the afternoon glorious so I decided to walk Maggie, my dog, along the newly opened field. It was an unexpected appointment with God. October is not a pretty time in Nebraska. It holds a different beauty; one pregnant with hopeful anticipation. Miles upon miles of brittle brown fields lay ready for harvest. To the unfamiliar eye, the nondescript rows hold nothing of value. To the one who is waiting to harvest, the field is full of bounty. The farmer prepared the soil, planted seed, provided nutrients, protected from damage and watered. He has invested much. All as he waits for the proper time to harvest. Maggie searched for bugs and I searched for God to speak. The wind-pushed leaves scratched brittle against each other. I am brittle too. God speaks. This field is you. I am waiting to harvest. Maybe you are brittle dry waiting on God also. It is not an easy place to be. I get that. Do you believe you have nothing...
Staying Calm When Life Seems Impossible

Staying Calm When Life Seems Impossible

There they stood like ducks on a firing range. Only it was Pharaoh and 600 chariots breathing down their backside. The Red Sea and certain destruction the only other choice. The newly released slaves had no way to defend themselves and nowhere to run. Trapped. Terrified. Have you been there? I’ve had my back against the wall this week. Mounting pressure makes me feel like someone hijacked my life. My pressure, my Pharaoh, comes from work. Maybe your Pharaoh is illness that robs. Your Pharaoh might be a relationship that poisons. Does Pharaoh attack your faith like the slaves at the edge of the Red Sea? God has other plans for you and me.  The Lord will fight for you. Just stay calm. Ex. 14:14 The waters may not part, but he still gives victory. Right now, I don’t see Pharaoh, backing down and God may not part the waters for me to escape. My victory comes in a calm heart. I am thankful for the stillness God gives. Knowing I’m powerless, I just stay calm. Am I perfect at it? No, but I’m learning more every day. He can give you same sense of calm. When your back is against the wall and the warriors of destruction are looming, He will fight for you. Just stay calm. What is your Pharaoh today? How has God fought for you? I’m part of Team 365 Reading God’s word every day.  It is a great way to read through the bible. Would you like to join us?...
Morning Renewal

Morning Renewal

My weekend starts early. Heat made this week swelter. I venture to my porch early to test the comfort level for my quiet time. Ah! A breeze whispers through leaves in the nearby field, birds chatter their good morning to the rising sun. Quiet, peaceful, refreshing. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23. In the midst of stress and uncertainty God comes and reminds me He is here. Thank you...

The Holy Alphabet

I received this in an email recently. It is so good I want to share. Although things are not perfect Because of trial or pain Continue in thanksgiving Do not begin to blame Even when the times are hard Fierce winds are bound to blow God is forever able Hold on to what you know Imagine life without His love Joy would cease to be Keep thanking Him for all the things Love imparts to thee Move out of ‘Camp Complaining’ No weapon that is known On earth can yield the power Praise can do alone Quit looking at the future Redeem the time at hand Start every day with worship To ‘thank’ is a command Until we see Him coming Victorious in the sky We’ll run the race with gratitude Xalting God most high Yes, there’ll be good times and yes some will be bad, but… Zion waits in glory…where none are ever...
Knowing the Way to Safety

Knowing the Way to Safety

God gave my daughter and me one of those moments the heart of a mom loves. A moment of hope and shared experience in the form of a winged migration like none I’ve ever seen. It was an incredible sight. Hundreds and maybe thousands of Canada and Snow geese formed a labyrinth across the sky. I stopped the car to take in the wonder. All the energy saving V’s blended together, not separate but still distinct. The tail of one would blend into the beginning of another. While the Canada geese were more organized, the Snow geese flew in like a mob without a leader. The effect gave the appearance of swirling smoke. We watched the strenuous rhythm of wings beating bodies forward. We rolled down the windows to the cold air and listened to the din as they flew above us. But the honks and squawks were not cacophony to God. He understands. As I pulled the car away, we caught sight of a lone bald eagle. Magnificent wings positioned as it effortlessly soared toward its river nest for the night. We watched the wonder of God’s creation. God placed within these creatures knowledge without having knowledge of the pattern of life, the direction of home and safety. I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!...
